Bursitis

Joint bursitis: features

If an inflammatory process occurs in the synovial capsule, the production of fluid that nourishes and lubricates the joints is disrupted. This causes pain, limited movement in the joint, and unpleasant symptoms.

What causes bursitis?

Infections

Injuries or injuries (for example, in professional athletes)

Constant and excessive load on the joints

Calcium deposits in the tendons

Metabolic disorders

Autoimmune pathologies.

Chronic forms of the disease develop as a result of acute bursitis or against the background of inflammatory processes in the bones and joints.

Course of the disease

Acute bursitis develops within 2-3 days. Often, after suffering an acute infectious disease, the patient notices that the area around the joint has significantly increased in volume, redness and pain have appeared in the area of inflammation. If you do not consult a doctor, the disease can become chronic.

Chronic bursitis is manifested by soft swelling, which sometimes increases in volume. The pain is mild, but there is difficulty in moving the joints.

What is dangerous about bursitis

The danger of bursitis lies not only in the possibility of its purulent development, but also in the deposition of calcium salts on the walls of the joint capsule, which reduce the mobility of the joints.

In addition, in the chronic form, scar tissue may form inside the joint, which limits its movement and can lead to disability.

Types of Bursitis

Bursitis is classified into types based on the name of the joint.

Elbow bursitis - the most common type, affecting the subcutaneous capsule of the elbow.

Knee bursitis

Shoulder bursitis

Hip bursitis

Ankle bursitis may require additional diagnosis in the case of a heel spur, the symptoms of which make an accurate diagnosis difficult.
